But even with taking the mothership and lander back down and recovering, I have only like 20k left in funds, and I cant afford to send the ship up again (with solar panels added to the lander). I thought may as well test my crafts then, so burned out to Ike orbit, and then detached my lander, but on the way down I realized I had forgotten about solar panels on the lander, so it became uncontrollable lol. That did work and I got into a super high orbit around Duna, after reducing it down to a nice 500km orbit. So starting to panic I pointed at target and start burning again, eventually got the closest approach down to 49,000kms and I tried that (if I remember correctly lol). I thought that might work but when I got to that point I wasn't in Duna's SOI (or so I think, the circularize tool didn't activate properly but just wanted to circularize my sun orbit). However I don't think it worked after a 3m burn (damn low thrust engines lol) I was on an intercept path or so I thought, but getting closer to Duna I noticed the closest approach was 124,000kms I think. Attached to the nose of the mother ship was a small lander, consisting of 1 man pod, science jr, small tank and 909 engine, with landing gear/batteries/mono prop and a bunch of other science experiments.Īfter getting to HKO so that warp speed worked, since I have never done a planet transfer before I used Mechjeb, I find it really helpful in learning how things work. In between the small tanks I had batteries, extracting 1圆 solar panels, and monoprop tanks. The payload consisted of a mother ship, containing a 3 man pod, a orange tank with four of the long small tanks attached around it, the four small tanks had 4 nuke engines with lines to it fed from the center orange tank. The launcher worked fine, got my main payload into HKO. The payload was brought up by a 9 engine strong launcher, using the first NASA part (the two nozzle combined with tank engine) and a orange tank on top of that for each engine unit, the 9 engines peeled away in asparagus style. That Duna/Eve mission I was talking about earlier, well it went badly obviously I have no idea what I'm doing and even Mechjeb couldn't help me. So I can confirm that you can in fact run out of money haha. I dont like that because it leaves a big mess that you have to get rid of. The author used wheels and rcs that detached from the side of the modules once in place. What are your ideas of moving the modules into finally placement. Problem is the modules sit so close to the ground I wouldnt have enough room for 2 docking ports and metal plate. I thought about going with a "hydraulic" rover that would lower to go under the MKS modules and lift up to drive off and place, then would lower to allow the MKS modules to lift theirselves off so the rover can be reuseable. They dont need to have powered flight capabilities for say, as when they are strapped together they cancel each other out.Īfter that I am thinking of making a skycrane that can land each module indiviually and have wheels to drive it into exact place. That way I can have, for say, 100% reusable launch system. What I am planning on doing is using them like jet boosters on my payload, then detaching them and letting them glide back to kerbin and land like a plane. Basically it is a glider with a massive amount of jet engines. Currently working on a dual SSTO plane design that can be strapped to either side of a rocket/payload.
